Parent Teacher Subcommittee 2010

WHAT IS THE PTS?PTS_logo.jpg

Victoria Avenue School has an active Parent/Teacher Subcommittee(PTS). The PTS is always keen to welcome new members and provides a forum for your ideas and gives you the opportunity to meet other parents and be more involved in the school's activities.

The PTS has three main aims:
1. To encourage involvement in the school and foster a sense of community.
2. To provide funds for the "extras".
3. To improve and maintain the school environment.

Meetings are held monthly on a Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m. in the staff room.

We welcome all parents to PTS and BOT meetings - these are advertised in the newsletter. The PTS is a subcommittee of the Victoria Avenue School Board of Trustees.  Each year it is necessary to fundraise for our school to enable us to offer the best educational environment for our children to enjoy and benefit.

WHAT DO WE DO?

The PTS committee support the school in many different ways.

Primarily we fundraise for the school.  The money contributes towards the main objectives the BOT have for the school for the year.  The events we will organise this year include the school Gala, children's discos, selling chocolate Easter Eggs, sausage sizzles and a parents' Quiz night.  For the full calendar of events, see below.

We also love to "friend-raise".  This means working within the school community to have fun and enjoy being part of the school's organisation.  We help to organise the Family Picnic at the start of the year, the New Entrant morning teas, Halloween, Grandparents' day and more.

Members of the committee are also involved in various projects around the school, such as the Gardening Working Bee, the school website, Resource Making and the school uniform.

Resource Making

Dear Helpers,
Click here for the roster for Term 1  2010.  Please put these dates in your diary now. As well as providing you with a copy of this roster I will be posting this roster on the school Website so if you lose your roster you can check the website. Thank you for being on the roster. Your help is greatly appreciated by the teachers. If you no longer want to be on the roster please phone me or complete the slip at the end of this roster and leave it at the school office for me. If you can’t make your rostered day please try and swap with some one who is rostered the week before or after you. If you can’t do this then please phone Penny Hacking or myself so that we can arrange replacements.

Remember that Resource making is in the meeting room at the entrance to the office on Tuesdays at 9am or as soon thereafter as you can get there. You can stay for as long or short a time as you wish but remember many hands make light work. We are usually finished by 10.30pm but often earlier. Pre-schoolers are welcome. There are some toys at the office but it helps to bring pre-schoolers some toys and a snack. Morning tea is provided for the helpers.

Enjoy your morning. This is a fun way to catch up with other parents in your child’s class.

With many thanks
Donna Robertson (Ph 520 5651 or
Email) Resource Making Co-ordinator
