Dear Parents
Promise little and do much
Hebrew Proverb
We are just four weeks away from our major school fundraiser of the year, The Promises Auction, and I hope that all school families will participate in what is sure to be a wonderful event. As the proverb above says you don’t have to promise much in order to make a big difference.
Please make sure that you keep Friday 19th March, 7pm till Midnight, free in your diaries so that you can attend this evening of fun, food and entertainment but also fundraising.
The evening will feature a professional Auctioneer who will run the Promises Auction and we are grateful to Kim and Rob Hamilton who have kindly offered us the use of their beautiful home for the event.
The evening will begin with complimentary ‘Promises Cocktail’ and the Promises Raffle – the chance to win $250 to bid with on the night. With delicious food and drinks throughout the evening, along with live music and a twilight treasure hunt in the gardens. It really should be a magical evening.
The PTS, and in particular the Promise Auction Committee, have worked incredibly hard to make this a very special event. Please consider doing your bit to support our school with the Auction. You can:
· • Offer a Promise– This can be as large or small as you wish, all promises are welcome. There is a list of examples on the flyer - click here to download the flyer
• Purchase a ticket for the event – Tickets will go on sale next week. The evening promises to be a special occasion and whilst a proportion of the $40 ticket price will be a 'donation' to the evening’ fundraising it also covers the cost of; cocktails on arrival, canapes, supper, dessert and coffee in addition to live music acts and the other 'entertainment' during the evening. A special evening out for all!
•Promote the event outside of our immediate school family– The team are working hard to secure corporate sponsorship for the event including several large ‘promises’. Encourage family and friends to participate both by donating a promise and purchasing tickets for the evening. Perhaps your workplace may wish to offer a promise or become involved in another form of sponsorship. There are a variety of sponsorship opportunities available. If you require any further information contact Karen Beard-Greer Phone: 021471 386 or

to email Karen.
· • Buy a Promise– Already we have many Promises to be auctioned on the evening. Some may cost $5 others $500, but every single one counts and most of all every dollar will really make a difference to the children at VAS.
Kind regards
Allan Short
Principal
School Picnic
On the School Field from 5.00- 7.00pm tonight. Bring a picnic - enjoy the evening! Food and wine available - but you will need to bring cash as there are no eftpos facilities.
Report Absence Button: On the home page of our website there is a place to report absence via email. We encourage you to use this option to report any absences or appointments your child might have.
Children leaving school during school time. If your child is to be picked up during school time for any reason you must arrange to pick them up from the office or the classroom. ALL children must be signed out of school in the orange book at the office desk. If your child is returned to school - your child must be returned to the classroom and signed in.
Late pick ups after school: Please advise your children that if you are not there to collect them at 3.00pm to take themselves to the school office and inform a staff member. Whilst it is inconvenient to have children collected late from school we would far rather they reported to the office and were supervised than them wait , worry or potentially take themselves offsite unaccompanied.

Chaos at the School Gate
Victoria Ave School is participating in the Auckland City Council’s Chaos at the School Gate programme. It involves placing parking officers on patrol outside schools to observe non-compliant behaviours and issue tickets to those illegally parked.
The Chaos at the School Gate programme has been very successful and is helping to reduce the danger to children as well as improve traffic flow around schools.
Road Tip ~ Take some time to talk with your child about the special road conditions they encoounter on the way to and from school.

Flippaball
Victoria Avenue School is fielding one Year 5/6 team this year in the Flippaball competitions. It was a good start in the pool on Sunday. A wonderful in-pass from Flynn onto the hand of Kees to set up a great goal was a highlight of good, thinking play. The game with Remuera was highly competitive in the second half and the final score was 6-5 to VAS. Given we played one short, this was a pretty good result.
The draw for the next two weeks.

Welcome to an evening of
Cocktails & Promises Friday 19th March 2010
Enjoy an enchanted evening with friends on Friday 19th March at the beautiful Remuera home of Kim and Rob Hamilton.
Your evening will begin with a complimentary ‘Promises Cocktail’. There will be delicious food and drinks available throughout the evening, along with live music and entertainment.
The Auction of Promises will give you the opportunity to bid on a magical range of promised goods and services donated from our community. This will be our major fundraiser for Victoria Avenue School for 2010. All funds raised will contribute to our new outdoor area behind rooms 7-10 which we hope to build next summer.
Parents new to the school are especially welcome – this is a great chance to meet your wider school community. Friends and family are also very welcome. Tickets will be on sale soon.
If you can help with the event, prior to or on the night, or if you can donate an auction item, please complete the form on this website - click here to download the form and return it to school. Thank you.
Looking forward to a fun night.
