Term 1 No 4 - 5 March 2010

Dear Parents

The rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday
- but never jam today!

Lewis Carroll

What a cynic Mr Carroll was. Well let’s just prove him wrong and make the Promises Auction the best it can possibly be; an evening full of friends, music, entertainment, generosity and lots and lots of jam!

We are just two weeks away from our biggest fundraiser of the year on Friday 19th March. We have already had many promises from our staff, school families and the local business community.

We hope to have the Auction Booklet available for all to consider possible bids prior to the evening but as a ‘sneak preview’ we can tell you that current promises include:
  • School Lunches made for your family and personally delivered
  • Fitness classes
  •  Sky Tower Bungy Jump
  • Tour of TVNZ newsroom
  • Three course meal at your own home, catered by a team of teachers
  • The chance for a child to be Principal for a Day (move over Mr Short!!)
  • A Days fishing on the Harbour – fully catered
  •  Regular Home baking for your family
  •  Baby/Pet sitting
No promise is too small so please contribute to our evening. There are many imaginative ways in which by donating a little bit of your time or expertise we can help the school raise the much needed funds for the next stage of the Junior School redevelopment project. Remember supporting the Promises Auction is directly supporting your child.

On the night the promises and gifts are being sorted into items for a Live Auction, a Silent Auction and for Balloon Prizes. At present we have around 60 promises but still would like lots more, please think of how you can help us reach our target!

The catering is already underway with a team of parents starting this week on food preparation for the evening and the Promises team are also working hard to engage local corporate sponsorship.

Above all we want people to participate on the actual evening. Tickets are on sale now so send in your money to school, book online, don’t leave it too late – it will be a fantastic evening out! Please invite your friends, get groups of people together, they don’t have to be families of VAS. The more tickets we sell the easier it is to reach our target

We hope that our many new families will attend too. If you still don’t know many people at the school there will be plenty of PTS hosts around on the evening to introduce you to others. Please join us and enjoy the fun.

Kind regards

Allan Short
Principal

PAT TESTING
Next week students in Years 3-6 will be taking part in PAT testing. These tests are administered each year and provide valuable information that helps teachers to determine the learning needs of each student.
Tests will be held throughout the week before lunch. This year we are sending tests papers away to be marked, analysed and a report printed. As it is very difficult to catch children up who miss a test we ask that, if possible, children are not removed from school during this time.

Regards,
Jane Cameron and Anne Bridgman
