Term 4 No 9 - 9 December 2010

Dear Parents

What an incredible place our school is; just when you think it can’t get any busier you realise that it can!

As I look out of my office window I can see a hive of activity around the hall as many of our Year 6 parents help prepare the school hall for tonight’s Leavers’ Dinner. The Middle Syndicate children have just left for their trip to the Auckland Museum and our Year 6 students are enjoying the sunshine outside as they engage in their Action Stations Activity Day.

With all of the above events (and others) going on, I hope you will accept our apologies for the slightly late arrival of end of year reports. We had hoped to have them home tomorrow, however the collation and printing has been somewhat delayed and therefore they will be made available next week. The school office will send home an email to families when they are ready. If anyone is unable to collect their child’s report they will be posted home at the end of term.

Next week we have two of our major school highlights, the Carol Service at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell on Thursday evening and our school Prize Giving in the Baradene auditorium on Friday. Parents and friends are invited to attend both occasions. We will have the chance to celebrate the wonderful year we have had at Victoria Avenue School and to say goodbye to some very special students and families.

The Cathedral is a wonderful venue for our Carol Service each year and traditionally we have taken a collection, which has been donated to the Cathedral to help cover their annual costs. This year we have been informed that the use of the facility will no longer be free and so your donations collected will go directly towards covering the not inconsiderable hire costs, so please give generously.

There will obviously be no newsletter next week but we will be sending out a Summer ‘Welcome back to School’ newsletter towards the end of January.

Finally I would like to say thank you for your friendship, support and encouragement for our school throughout 2010, together I believe we really do make a huge difference for each and every one of our very special students.

Whatever you are doing and wherever you may travel I wish you a relaxing and fun-filled summer with your families and look forward to seeing you back again in 2011.

Kind regards
Allan Short
Principal
